We’ll be shining the spotlight on them on our blog, so you can get to know our team a little better.
In the second of our team spotlights, we interviewed Maria Hoover. As our Office Manager, Maria is one of the most critical members of our team, working behind the scenes to keep us moving, paid and organized.
DMC: How long have you worked for DMC, and why did you join the team?
Maria Hoover: It will be three years in February, and it’s hard to believe it has been that long… it seems like yesterday! I joined the company because my previous employer was closing their Kansas City office, and I really was looking for some more work-life balance. The timing was perfect because this position became available right when I started thinking about my next move. I was excited to join a growing company and appreciated that DMC Service promotes the work-life balance I was looking for.
DMC: What is it like as a woman working in the HVAC and plumbing industry?
MH: I enjoy it – everyone here is pleasant and has a great attitude. It’s great to see how hard our techs work every day; they really do believe in being #diamondstrong and performing #brilliantwork. I also find it very uplifting to be a part of a woman-owned business in the trades. It’s exciting to be a leader in this area.
DMC: What does a typical day look like for you?
MH: As office manager, I manage all the office duties – I answer phones and emails, enter invoices, pay bills, schedule jobs, work with vendors, run credits cards and other tasks that Karen, our owner, assigns me. There’s never a dull moment, and every day is a new adventure!
DMC: And can you tell us a little about yourself?
MH: Of course! I’m married with four kids, three of whom are in college. We have three dogs that keep us busy! I’m originally from Hayes, KS, and I graduated cum laude from Fort Hays State University with a Business Administration degree. I moved to the Kansas City area after college and have lived here for 31 years.
DMC: What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
MH: I love spending time with my kids, reading, gardening, walking the dogs and watching movies. When I need a good laugh I watch the Disney animation the Emperor’s New Groove…there’s just something about it that makes me giggle every time!
